Save Cedar creek

From Cedar Creek to Lake Michigan, We Are Standing Up for Every Drop of Wisconsin Water.

WE STAND TO PROTECT WISCONSIN’S WATERWAYS AND NATURAL RESOURCES

We’re committed to defending the shared land, air, and water that define Wisconsin. Our mission is to ensure these public treasures remain safe from private exploitation, corporate negligence, and short-sighted policies that put profit over people and ecosystems. Together, we can protect what belongs to all of us, because clean water and healthy land are not luxuries, they’re rights.

Community & Conservation

We unite residents, local experts, and advocates to safeguard our creeks, rivers, and wetlands. From Cedar Creek to Lake Michigan, we work to keep Wisconsin’s water flowing freely, cleanly, and fairly for every community.

Protect Our Resources

We shine a light on private and public projects that threaten our natural balance. By demanding open records, environmental review, and ethical stewardship, we ensure our shared resources stay truly shared.

Education & Action

We help citizens understand how environmental decisions affect their daily lives—then empower them to take action. Whether through petitions, public hearings, or legislative advocacy, we make protecting Wisconsin simple and accessible for everyone.

Our Community speaks out

Save Cedar Creek speaks for the people of Wisconsin who value our natural resources. Here what they have to say about preserving our creeks, rivers, lakes and waterways.

"What’s happening here isn’t just about one lake. It’s a reflection of a larger story of how disconnected we’ve become from the sacredness of the natural world and from the ideal of community.

This is a chance for our community to be a mirror for the collective and put the health of the whole before the desires of the individual"

Suzanne Monroe

Cedarburg, WI

"We have enjoyed generations on the creek as friends and neighbors. We shouldn't allow an individual to build a 13 acre ski pond in our community."

Image

Sarah Goodwin

Cedarburg, WI

"The people of Cedarburg deserve leaders guided not just by what is legally permissible, but by what is right.

We’re not against development. We’re against exploitation of our natural resources."

Image

Kevin Cahill

Cedarburg, WI

"It’s not a pond, it’s a permanent drain — more than 45 million gallons to fill, another 14 million to evaporate, and a pump that never stops pulling from our shared aquifer."

I hope and pray that they build it strong enough to stay up there. Is it going to leach out and cause more water problems elsewhere because everybody out there has water problems?”

Image

Edward Cherwink

Cedarburg, WI

"This isn’t a one-time water fill, = it’s a permanent drain. By the Gauthiers’ own numbers, their pond would take over 45 million gallons to fill and another 14 million lost to evaporation. That pump will never stop, and neither will the strain on our aquifer."

Cedarburg, WI

"This is a toy that they will very soon get bored with. Skiing on a tiny strip of a lake would be fun for exactly 10 minutes.

Then we are all left with empty wells. The selfishness of wealthy people astounds me!"

Image

Susanne Ulschmid

Cedarburg, WI

“Why? So they can go water skiing on their private pond! What is to stop the creek from going dry in the future?”

Image

Robert Chesney

Cedarburg, WI

"Cedar Creek is a lovely waterway to kayak on, from Creekside Park down to the Covered Bridge.

I disagree with the Gauthiers' plan to disrupt the environmental and recreational effects of the creek for many of us."

Frequently Asked Questions

Our Frequently Asked Questions section is designed to answer your most pressing questions. .

Why is the Gauthier pond project such a concern?

Because it would pull an estimated 35 = 50 million gallons of water from Cedar Creek to fill a private, 13-acre pond. plus 18 millions to keep it full from evaporation, every year. FOREVER. With zero regulation or oversight. That water feeds the Milwaukee River and Lake Michigan, making this a statewide issue, not just a local one.

How does this project affect Wisconsin’s shared water resources?

Cedar Creek is part of an interconnected watershed. Drawing this much water can lower the aquifer, harm nearby wells, and disrupt wildlife habitats. Once a precedent like this is set, it opens the door for other private projects to do the same. Do you want a water ski lake on your block? Well, if this passes, it becomes the standard legal game plan for every millionaire and a "dream".

What rights do we have to our public water resources?

Private property rights stop where public resources begin. Water in Wisconsin is held in public trust, meaning it belongs to everyone. No individual or business has the right to drain or divert shared water for private recreation.

What can residents do to help?

Sign the petition, attend town meetings, and share verified information about the project. Every signature and voice helps show that Wisconsinites stand together to protect our waterways from exploitation.

Donate here for legal, advertising, website and PR costs. Currently, all administrative duties are 100% volunteer driven.

Our small community is fighting a mega-millionaire family intent on capitalizing on our aquifer and creek. We need your financial support to fight back!

Who is behind Save Cedar Creek?

We’re a growing group of local residents, conservation advocates, and everyday Wisconsinites who believe in fair, transparent stewardship of our natural resources.

We’re nonpartisan, community-driven, and united by one simple belief: our water belongs to all of us.

We are currently registered as an LLC with the State of Wisconsin and are working to convert to a non profit. But that takes time and money we don't have. Right now, we are just a little LLC with a whole lot of love and hustle.

How can I contribute more or get involved in the legal fund?

Please see this document for more information. With your pledge of $5000 or more, you will become part of a growing group of concerned citizens who are willing to take this to the courts if our efforts at the Town of Cedarburg Board fail.

Donations below this amount go to advertising, PR, signs and other efforts to Save Cedar Creek.

There are already legal strategies in motion. Your pledge will help build a war chest to take on this issue at the local, county, state and federal level.

We do not collect your money up front at this level.

We simply will ask you to contribute from your pledge amount as new legal opportunities arise.

Read more here. And contact us via email for a personal meeting to learn more about what we are doing now, and what we have planned in the future to stall, stop this project or change the laws in out town, county or state BEFORE this project is passed.

How You Can Help

Help us spread the message and protect Cedar Creek, our aquifer, the natural habitat, protect your well and keep our town free of noisy powerboats and jet skis.
